French idioms for Brexit (1): we’re pedalling in the semolina

22 June 2016 by Jane Welton Leave a Comment

I wish this EU Referendum wasn’t happening.  Here’s what I think we’re doing:

Pedalling in semolina

….and don’t let’s put our fingers into our eyes:

to put ones finger into ones eye

….we’ll have to pay for the broken pots, in all sorts of ways, if we leave the EU.

The above cartoons come from the book “101 French Idioms” by Jean-Marie Cassagne, which gives us a light-hearted insight into French idioms and brings them alive.  I hope we won’t “avoir le cafard” (have the cockroach – be down in the dumps) on Friday when the result comes out!
